| Abstract |
Background. As you know, one of the key problems of the Russian economy of the last two years is the sanctions imposed by the EU countries. As a result Russia imposed retaliatory sanctions in the form of banning the import of many food products (milk and dairy products, almost all types of meat, fish, seafood, vegetables, fruits, nuts, etc.). This has necessitated a policy of import substitution, i.e. the products that entered the sanction list and needed by Russia have been produced in the country. The aim of this work is to find out what are the prospects and ways of development of Russian producers in Penza region and Russia as a whole.
Materials and methods. The research tasks were implemented through a comparative analysis of these programs for import substitution in Penza region (based on the data of the Ministry of Agriculture of Penza region), as well as of the actual results achieved. The authors also discussed the program of import substitution in Russia as a whole in the long term outlook.
Results. Considering the directions of the import substitution program for Penza region and Russia as a whole, the authors have identified "weak points" of manufacturers and suggested recommendations for improving the program of import substitution.
Conclusions. Local food products are becoming more popular overseas due to the "price-quality" ratio. And in this regard we can conclude that as for domestic producers the anti-Russian sanctions have become a chance to bring their products to a new level. It turns out that the planned damage did no harm.
